Just what is the lure of spinning fishing?

First ... just what is spinning fishing .. or spin fishing .. as it is more commonly called?

Spinning is a method of fishing with mannade lures or live bait. A  weighted lure is cast with a line, which unwinds from a stationary spool. The line is rewound by a handle that turns the spool as you turn the handle.

Spin fishing rods are basically the same as casting rods .. with the only difference being the reel lies on top of the rod and is controlled by the thumb. 

There are two types of reels .. one open faced and the other closed.  This simply means one is enclosed in a plastic or metal encasement while the open one is just that .. open. 

The open reel has a huge advantage in that the line.. when broken or tangled.. can be reached easily and repaired in the reel.

If you are a beginner... you will definitely want the open reel.

Wnen buying line .. be sure to use monofilament "made for spin fishing" line only .. with a left-handed reel handle if you are right handed and a left handed reel handle if you are left-handed.

When buying tackle for the first time .. look at the middle of the road as far as price goes.. but look for good brand names.  The qualtiy will be there.

As far as learning how to spin fish .. you can follow the directions on the packaging of your reel.. or better yet.. get an old hand at the sport to mentor you.

That is always the most fun .. and the most profitable as far as learning tehcniques... after all.. the lure of spinning fishing is the thought of being out on the edge of that old river... with the sound of the water running and the thought of those fish just flying after that lure you have just put in the water.

The lure of spinning fishing is ageless.. and timeless.
